Vietnam scraps two-child policy to combat falling birthrate | Demographics News

The decrease in Vietnam’s birth rate is more pronounced in urban areas, while nationwide, male births still exceed women in number.

Vietnam has discarded its two -ray pulmonary policy, since it aims to reverse its birth rate in decline and relieve the pressure of an aging society.

All restrictions were eliminated this week, and couples will be free from having so many children to choose, according to the Vietnamese media.

The Minister of Health, Dao Hong Lan, said that a future reduced population “threatens the sustainable economic and social development of Vietnam, as well as its national security and long -term defense,” said Hanoi Times.

Between 1999 and 2022, Vietnam’s birth rate was approximately 2.1 children per woman, the replacement rate necessary to prevent the population from shrinking, but the rate has begun to fall, said the means of communication.

In 2024, the country’s birth rate reached a minimum record of 1.91 children per woman.

Regional neighbors such as Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Singapore and Hong Kong have birth rates in Declive, but their economies are more advanced than those of Vietnam.

It is expected that the Vietnam’s age population will reach its maximum point around 2040, according to the World Bank, and its objective is to avoid the trap of “aging before Enrique”.

The country’s communist government introduced the policy of two sections in 1988 to ensure that it had adequate resources, since it went from a planned market economy to a market economy. At that time, Vietnam was also overcoming the effects of decades of war.

The policy of two children of Vietnam was strictly applied to members of the Vietnam Communist Party, according to Associated Press, but families everywhere could leave the subsidies and assistance of the government if they had a third or fourth children.

In addition to a birth rate in Declive, Vietnam also faces significant imbalances in different regions and social groups, the Ministry of Health said.

The decrease in the birth rate is more pronounced in urban areas such as Ho Chi Minh and the capital Hanoi, where the cost of living is higher. But there are also significant disparities in the genre. Last year, Vietnam’s proportion at birth was 111 children for every 100 girls.

The disparity between the male and female births is more pronounced in the Delta of the Red River of Vietnam of the North and in northern Midlands and Mountains, according to the World Bank, and lower in the central highlands and the Delta of the Mekong River.

Vietnam prohibits the doctors of the parents of their children from counting to stop selective abortions to sex, but the practice continues, with doctors who communicate through coded words, according to the Vietnamese media.

It was not controlled, the General Statistics Office warned that there could be a “surplus of 1.5 million men aged 15 to 49 by 2039, increasing to 2.5 million by 2059”.

In an attempt to reverse this trend, the Ministry of Health proposes separately tripling the fine for the “fetal gender selection” to around $ 3,800.
