Kimi Antonelli admits that he delights with his unexpected position of the pole for the sprint in the Miami Grand Prix, but he is already looking at a repetition in the Saturday classification session.
The 18 -year -old became the young driver to establish the fastest time in any classification session in Formula 1 by winning Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris on Friday afternoon in Miami, and will start from Pole for the Sprint. With the result, his first hot performance in any competitive part of a F1 weekend, Antonelli admits that he came out of nowhere, but his approach is already changing to try to become the young Ponesitter for a Grand Prix at Sports Saturday.
“It was a very intense rating,” said Antonelli. “I felt very good from the morning, and I felt sure of the qualification. The last lap was powerful. Basically everything together and it was good that everything has been very good and I am very happy to get the first post.
“On the moon. I did not expect it, but I felt good in the car. I could improve the lap by return and find that consistency, and in that return everything joined. I am super, super happy with that. Now we will enjoy this moment a little small tomorrow, because I really wanted to try to repeat myself.
“We did a fairly long career in FP1 to try to collect as much information as possible. Of course, we really do not know the rhythm of others, but I suppose we will see tomorrow, during the race and then on the qualification. The track will continue to evolve, so it will be important to be on top and try to repeat ourselves.”
Antonelli’s father was present at the Mercedes garage and was able to celebrate with his son after the Sprint qualification session, and the rookie paid tribute to his family after his historical result.
“It was definitely really pleasant,” he said. “Also to Find Him in the Garage After QUALIFYING, I’M SUPER HAPPY TO SHARE THIS MOMENT WITH HIM. and and and and and and and and and I like and i wommd it and and i wommd and and i wommd and and i wommd and and i wommd it and and and I have a woman and I have a woman and I have a woman and I have a woman and I have a woman and I have a woman and I have feminine it and I have done my hom and I, and I have a woman, and I have a woman next time.
“Tomorrow it will be good to start in the first row. It will be a bit different, but I really can’t wait for tomorrow and see how we can do it at the Sprint and then in the qualification too.”
