The season could be at the PGA Tour, but there are still some important events in Europe, starting with this week’s BMW PGA championship at the Wentworth Club in Surrey, England.
Among the participants is Tommy Fleetwood in England, 33, who won the silver medal at the Summer Olympic Games in Paris and finished 20th in the Tour Championship in Atlanta earlier this month. However, despite all his achievements, Fleetwood, held the 12th position in the world with seven victories in his career at the DP World Tour, which still seeks his first victory in the United States.
Fleetwood, who ended in sixth place last year at Wentworth, recently talked about the Olympic Games and his search to finally make way in the United States.
The conversation has been condensed and edited.
Was I satisfied this season on the PGA tour?
I feel good with many things about the year. Every time you arrive at the Tour championship, it is always a success. That said, I would like to have sustained in more tournaments.
What should you do to go to the next level?
Honestly, everything is very, very close. It is easy when you get to this point “Ok, I will look for a magical response or rebuild things.” I think I can continually do most of the same things and develop the consistency that had and adjust a couple of small areas.
Will you review your seasonal statistical duration out of season?
I like to do that because I think statistics really don’t lie. They are only dry numbers. And I think it is always important to see what the best players in the world are doing and what you are doing and seeing if there is something that stands out in those particular areas.
Do you have feelings found about Paris, so close to capturing gold?
Standing in that scenario it was one of the most proud moments of my career. Having an Olympic medal that will transmit to generations will never be special. You may never play in other Olympic Games. You just don’t know how things are going to go.
What do you think of Wentworth?
Beautiful golf course, and for us who grew up in the DP World Tour, is our flagship event. After the elderly, it could be said that it is the largest next. I have played some great rounds there. I have a dispute bone two or three times, or I have been on the limit, but never just able to keep it underway until the end. Last year, I played very well on Sunday. Putting me disappointed.
What do you think are your challenges?
The first three or four holes that you can start with a good start, but you can also have a very bad. He cannot master the golf course, so from that perspective, everyone in the field has the same opportunity to use different strengths. It is a very good shirt and a second shot golf course. You have to put the ball at stake.
Are you frustrated that Port Won in America?
I am, and at the same time, I really concentrate on trying not to stop at that because I have played golf very well in the PGA Tour. The more I would allow me to concentrate on what has not happened, that would make it more difficult every time I contain me. I don’t want to win only once, I want to win several times. I’m sure that will happen on time. However, they are only much longer tasks than I thought or other people, but everyone has a different trip.
At 33, do you feel a feeling of urgency?
At the end of the day, whatever happens in my career in the future, I spent an incredible time chasing my dreams and I still have time in front of me. I don’t feel so much pressure to do it. I only look forward to the times when I get in those positions, and I can enjoy another opportunity to get that first victory.
