Dubai Health CEO Outlines Vision For A Future-Ready Healthcare System

 

Dubai is shaping a medical care ecosystem that places people in his heart that is innovative, inclusive and deeply focused on humans, said Dr. Ir. Amer Sharif, CEO of Dubai Health and president of the University of Medicine and Health Sciences of Mohammed Bin Rashid (MBR).

He attributed the remarkable progress of the Dubai health sector to the visionary leadership of his highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid al Maktoum, vice president and prime minister of the EAU and ruler of Dubai, and the directives of his Alnessid Crown Prince of Dubai, Vegetable Prime Minister, Minister of Defense and President of the Executive Council of the Executive Council of Dubai.

These ideas were shared to see a media conference organized by the Dubai Government Media Office as part of its ‘Meet The CEO’ series. Dr. Amer Sharif highlighted the progress of medical care in Dubai since its early beginning in the 1940s, culminating in the creation of its first academic health system integrated under Law No. 13 (2021). The key initiatives include ‘Dubai Health Majalis: Voice of the Community’ and the Press Gay program, which captures ideas at each stage of the patient’s trip to improve the quality of care and patient’s experience. These efforts are aligned with the National Campaign ‘Year of the Community 2025’.

Badge projects

Dr. Sharif emphasized the role of Dubai Health in the progress of medical care through worldwide aligned initiatives. Among them is the Hamdan Bin Rashid Cancer hospital, ready to transform cancer attention through early detection, advanced diagnosis and holistic treatment. Designed with contributions from cancer survivors, the project won a Wan Gold prize for ‘Future projects – Health’. Advanced AI and Technologies

Dubai Health is having artificial intelligence and advanced technologies in line with Dubai’s artificial intelligence strategy for the 2025-2028 health sector. It has 37 high priority AI initiatives focused on five central areas, including the improvement of patient experience, improving access to care and increased diagnostic precision, among others.

Academic Excellence

Mbre, the academic and discovery arm of Dubai Health, was classified in Group 1 of the classifications of the National Institutions of Highe Education and obtained three subsidies under the RDI program of the Dubai Future Foundation. Dr. Sharif said that 10% of the faculty was classified among the main scientists in the world in 2024 from Stanford University. The University has published 1,811 research works, with 84% in first -level magazines Q1 and Q2.

Strategic associations

Transforming donations

Dr. Sharif shared that the Jalila Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Dubai Health, recorded an outstanding yield in 2024, raising AED1777.65 million in support of Dubai Health’s mission to impact lives and shape the future of health.

In addition, he said: “As part of his efforts to support education, the Jalila Foundation granted 13 scholarships for the first time in 2024. He also extended his strategic associations signing several mous with local hunters and origins.”

Patient health and trip operations center

Dr. Sharif highlighted the role of the health operations center in the supervision of patients from the entrance to recovery, which reflects the “first patient” spirit of Dubai Health.

Between 2022 and 2024, Dubai Health achieved significant growth in the absorption of the service. An cornerstone of this progress is the Redesign initiative of Patient Journey, prioritization 45 ways of care (covering about 68% of patients) in emergency, specialized and prevention care.

Exponential growth

Dubai Health registered remarkable growth in several performance indicators Duration 2024. Deliveries of home medicines increased by 189%, reaching approximately 109,000 in 2024, compared to 37,724 in 2022.

The patient transport service, which provides dedicated transport for patients between their homes and the health centers of Dubai, saw a significant increase in beneficiaries, increasing from 862 in 2023 to 5,365 in 2024.

The Medical Home visit program saw an increase of 68%, reaching a total of 90,816 visits during the three years, compared to 23,277 in 2022 to 39,114 in 2024.

From 2022 to 2024, Dubai Health provided 256,350 Telemedicine services. The number of services increased from 78,969 by 2022 to 92,930 in 2024, which represents an increase of 17.7%.

Around the last three years, Dubai Health call center professionally handled approximately five million calls. In 2024, customer satisfaction reached 93.1%, marking an 8% increase compared to 2023.
