Expats living in Saudi Arabia can now update their passport information online. They can do this through their employer’s account in the Absher platform.
This online service lets them update their information without having to contact the offices of the General Directorate of Passports
Expats simply need to open their Absher app and go to ‘My Services’ section. At this section, they need to click ‘Passport’ section to be able to access the Resident Identity Services and update their passport information.
Requirements
The platform requires a clear photo of the passport to be attached to the Absher website, which automatically reads the passport number and expiry date.
When reading the new passport information on Absher, the platform requires the expat to agree to a pledge confirming that the previous passport was not lost, and there is not a report of ‘absence from work’ against the him/her.
Expats must also not have traffic violations recorded on the residency permit (iqama) where the new passport information is to be registered. Moreover, there must be no security restrictions for either parties (employer and employee).
Each expat is required to update his/her passport information every five years. If the same resident has another passport, he/she must personally visit the Jawazat office to update his/her information.
Terms and conditions
In case a resident’s passport is lost, he/she needs to personally the Jawazat office to report the loss and update his/her information.
If the authorities find that the expat’s Passport information was updated despite the document being lost, the individual who completed the service will be held accountable according to the rules and regulations.
The registration of the new or renewed passport will be under the responsibility of the one who completes the service. He/she will bear full responsibility if the information are proven to be untrue, and will be held responsible for forgery.
The online service of updating information will not be possible if the previous passport contains family members who have later secured new passports. In such cases, it is necessary to personally visit the Jawazat office to update the information.
Fee
To be able to enjoy the convenience of this online service, residents only need to pay SR69, including VAT.
