
WeRide announces fully driverless Abu Dhabi robotaxi trials

Word has announced the launch of Robotaxi tests totally drivers in Abu Dhabi, his son’s first deployment in the Middle East.
From this quarter, a fleet of Weride’s robotaxis will be tested on public roads without a security conductor, marking an important milestone for intelligent mobility in Abu Dhabi.
Under this new phase, it will also be used to extend its robotaxi service coverage to include the island to the Maryah and the island to the Ref.
Robotaxi rode in Abu Dhabi
These new areas are based on the existing Robotaxi Network of Weride, which has been safely serving Yas Island, Saadiyat Island and the routes that connect to Zayed International Airport since 2021.
Jennifer Li, CFO and Chief of International in Weride, said: “Weride makes history as the first company to pilot the robotaxis completely drisveress in the Middle East region, showing our autonomous leadership in one of the world dynamic urban environments.
“In parallel, we are expanding the commercial service to high demand areas such as the Maryah and the islands to the rep, the smart mobility solutions for more users in the Middle East. Together, the thesis demonstrates our technological maturation of robotaxis.”
Weride is accelerating its global expansion, with the EAU as a key market. In July 2023, the company received the first and only national license of the EAU for autonomous vehicles, authorization and operation of autonomous vehicles on public roads throughout the country.
In December 2024, Worlded and Uber launched their Travel Association in Abu Dhabi, marking the largest commercial robotaxi service outside the United States and China.
Commercial trips of Drisveress and additional service areas will be introduced from the summer of 2025, subject to the regulatory approach.
