Israel’s Supreme Court orders far-right minister to respond to petitions demanding his dismissal – Middle East Monitor

 

The Supreme Court of Israel ordered today to the Minister of National Security of Extreme Right Itamar Ben-Gvir to respond within six days of the requests that demand their dismissal.

Israeli human rights groups Batter Batter Ben-Gvir or interfering in Operational Police affairs and have asked for their dismissal. The extremist minister, however, argues that the police force falls under his authority as Minister of National Security.

In February, Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara sent a letter to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu about Conerns about Ben-Gvir’s behavior as minister.

In response, Ben-Gvir accused the attorney general of organizing a coup against an elected government and requested his dismissal.

In March, the Israeli government voted unanimously to withdraw the confidence of Baharav-Miara.

Ben-Gvir is known for his antipalestine rhetoric and has asked to continue with the Bruts attack in Israel in the Gaza Strip, where almost 51,400 people have killed in October 2023.
