Rosa Barba Lights Up MoMA With Her Love of Cinema

Several art forms have a leg that crosses in the life of a beard from their childhood near Stuttgart, in southern Germany, where classes in dance, flute and guitar are classified before settling in the cello. At age 14, he was interested in photography and began the portraits of the bar and landscape shots, which he developed in a dark room of the school or at home in the bathroom.

“I really loved this son of Alchemy,” he recalled, “causing the image to come out, and also manipulating it.”

He was also watching many films at the time, and felt attracted to the work of Italian authors such as Pier Paolo Pasolini and Federico Fellini, who thought or their own films such as paintings. When he turned to a super 8 camera as a gift, it was the way to experiment with his own moving images.

He studied at the Academy of Arts for presentation media in Colonia, Germany “One of the first schools in which I could basically study cinema and art in the same space, ”said Barba, and his teachers including the filmmaker Harun Farocki and the Austrian performance artist Valie Export.

Postgraduate studies then monitor the prestigious Rijksakademie in Amsterdam and the Malmö Academy in Sweden, which gave it a PH.D. For a dissertation, “on the anarchic organization of film spaces”, Astronomy Whesches, Art History, color theory and philosophy of Gilles Deleuze.

These days, she spends a lot of time moving. Although he has lived in Berlin since 2009, Barba estimated that he was traveling for about six months every year: investigating projects, filming or installing shows. Berlin was “a good place to think and work,” he said, “but on the other hand, I guess I get most of the mental work along the way.”
