Our guest in the new episode of how I learned to shout is the leader of Erra, JT Cavey.
Since 2016, Cavey has been breaking it with Alabama Erra, progressive metalcore leaders. Made his debut in that year DriftThe band’s third album, crushing his throat to some of your favorites, such as “Skyline”, “irreversible” and “Drift”.
Before joining, he presented the Pennsylvania Texas Metalcore band in July 2014 to 2015. And in 2021, hey, joined the band and has a strip of beans.
On stage, it is a monster that is used well in a baseball hat with sports performances, brutally counteracting ethereal voices or the bandmate and guitarist of Erra Jesse Cash.
“Sometimes I understand myself too excited,” he says about some programs, such as the Sotic of the Temple of Erra, that place of Tok before filming this episode. The rhythm is important and you can’t go out and go too hard or you will be breathless when the second song begins.
Before becoming a vocalist, he felt really attracted to disturb around 11 years. They sacrificed something darker than the rock had already heard in their life and that was the spark that illuminated the flame always burned.
Bury Your Dead, The Ghost Inside and Killswitch Engage were some of the bands that he admired around 2010 when he began experimenting with more extreme voices, recording vocal covers in the basement at home. Except … the neighbors listened to him. Strange! He developed a schedule in which he was less harmful to those who live nearby.

A common complaint about extreme voices is that you can’t listen to the lyrics. Not when Cavey is behind the microphone thought.
“The enunciation is literally my number 1 priority in my technique,” he says. “I listed many Hardcore and average rank vocalists growing, so when I was learning my technique, I thought:” I want the lyrics to be the most audible, they are a bit quiet removal with the intensity and determination that I am looking for in my voice. ”
In another part of the video below, Cavey talks about hollowing the microphone, what to do when you get sick on the tour, rituals before the show, how was your first tour vocally and more about solving all this?
Erra’s last album, Cure, arrived last year in UNFD. They will be touring this summer with architects and all dates and ticket information can be found on the band’s website. Follow Erra on Instagram, X and Facebook.
