Dagenham and Redbridge have issued a formal apology to former director Salma Mashhour, days after his dismissal caused a broad controversy.
Salma Mashhour, a football youttuber and a doctoral holder in Political Science, was withdrawn from her role as director of Development and Commitment only three days after her appointment. He had joined as part of a property company led by his Egyptian partner Youtuber Marwan Serry.
His dismissal followed the resurgence of publications on social networks about the conflict of Israel-Palestine, particularly one in which he wrote: “occupation creates resistance and self-defense is not terrorism.”
Despite the fact that he later clarified that the comments were never perceived as a support of any form of violence, he faced a barrage or mostly racist and xenophobic attacks on social networks. Add salt to the wound was an online petition that asked the club to eliminate the Mashhour and the Serry of the club’s board.
However, on Friday Dagenham & Redbridge published a detailed statement that recognizes the controversy and publicly apologized to Mashhour. The club declared that her dismissal “in no way” implied that she supported hatred or division.
“We regret and apologize for any damage that may have caused the leg to Dr. Mashur as a result of the attributable statements or associable to the club’s decision and the club to eliminate it,” reads the statement.
Easing even more, “the decision to eliminate Dr. Mashhour in no way is a recognition that Dr. Mashur supports hate and division messages. Declarations that could be taken to imply that supports the position of actricinorcintor actricinorcinorial actricinorial or recorded.”
The club reiterated its position against all forms of discrimination and reaffirmed its commitment to inclusion, unity and tolerance. “We are a club that is proud of the inclusion, responsibility and representation of a broad and diverse community.”
The elimination of Salma Mashhour and the subsequent resignation of Marwan Serry as a co -owner lead to a great reaction online and in the local community. The opposite requests made the rounds, and the social networks of the club were flooded with comments from both sides.
