The first Woman of the EAU, the great teacher ends the Maiden campaign in Stavanger with 3 wins, 2 raffles and 4 losses, showing resistance after the first setbacks
Stavanger, Norway, June 1 – The ascent chess star of the EAU, rouda al Serkal, signed its inaugural appearance in the Norway Chess Open with a floriture, winning three consecutive games to close the prestigious category of general masters of the tournament (GM) in a maximum.
The 15 -year -old showed a remarkable resistance on nine exhausting rounds, which recovered from the first struggles to end a total of 4 points in general, a performance that not only demonstrated it.
Just out of a strong campaign in the Asian individual women championship in Al Ain two weeks before the tournament in Stavanger and a productive training block, the Serkal entered the tournament with confidence. However, the first round on May 26 against the great Swedish teacher Platon Galperin-one of the best qualified players in the tournament in the open category that ended the fourth place in general was not planned.
Playing white, rouda bravely fought for 56 movements, but Malay had to concentrate. The loss hit hard, especially, since it arrived in the first round of its inaugural appearance in the GM category. “It was difficult to start like this and then recover mentally from there, he disappointed me,” Rouda admitted. “I did not feel that I was doing my game, and it was demoralizing to lose after such a long fight. But I knew I had to regroup quickly.”
The next day, Rouda, who turns 16 next month, stabilized with a very close draw against the American Luke Leon Robin Anatol before suffering another defeat in the third round of Lucia Follana Albelda of Spain. “That was even more overwhelming, since I completely had my reach after opening with the advanced variation of Caro Kahn, but somehow I could not capitalize.”
Two more challenging days continued with a draw against Jan Enrique Zepeda Berlanga of Mexico and the defeats to the Norwegians ask Amundsen (playing white) and Astor Moe Maurstad (playing black).
But Al Serkal, the first great teacher of the EAU and former World Youth Champion, refused to let the first setbacks defined their debut in Stavanger. His persistence was paid in Ronda Seven, when he achieved his first victory, a safe action against Sigur H. Myny de Norway while playing white.
“I just found my balance,” he said. “I stopped thinking too much, I concentrated on the basics and trusted my training. Once that happened, things started clicking.”
She took that impulse forward, scoring her second consecutive victory on May 30 against the Italian Mauro Pivi, and limited her campaign on Sunday with a victory composed of Franck Gouanelle, her third consecutive victory.
With three victories, two draws and four losses, the general performance of Al Serkal was a promising sample of potential. Compeating in a field full of experienced international players, not only hero his own accumulated with a strong closing statement, Albegh, he would have liked to end better in general. “I honestly expected to win around 100 qualification points,” said Rouda. “Most of the rounds I lost, I was winning or had a clear advantage but in the end I lost the course. That is what frustrated me most.”
However, as the first Emirati woman who plays in the GM category of Norway Chess Open, her participation only marks a milestone for the EUAs of the EAU. But his ability to recover and end strong added a powerful narrative of career and composure on his international trip.
“It was a learning experience rather than anything else,” he told Serkal. “And I am proud to have stayed with that. Finish with three victories felt really special. I feel that I am still stronger than I arrived, although I could have done it much better.”
