Laver Cup: A Busy Taylor Fritz Embraces Team Competition

“It was crazy,” said Fritz. “I definitely cried much more than I thought. I was quite annoying, honestly seeing how much I hate Frances and Jack, like, winning the game. It bothered me a lot to see people receiving the raffles for the exhibition.

The Laver Cup is an official ATP Tour event, but, like the Olympic Games and the Davis Cup, it does not grant classification points. Pay participation rates for players depending on the classifications, but Federer made clear when the event that the players would take the event seriously. The winning team members receive $ 250,000 each, while the losers do not receive a prize money.

Fritz has made a priority and, like his teammates from the American Laver Cup, he died representing the United States in the Davis Cup last week, partly because the group stage was in China immediately after the United States Open.

Fritz has 3-1 in the singles of the Laver Cup and, in the 7th place, will be the leader of the team’s world. He is also on a roll after becoming the first American man in 15 years to reach an important singles final, losing to No. 1 Jannik Sinner in New York.

At 26, Fritz continues to progress. For a long time he has had a great right -wing blow and first service and a solid backwards of two hands. But it has improved its second service and mobility. His transition game and his net game need work, as the loss did to Sinner, but what most impresses Fritz coaches is their sand.

“Taylor is an unconditional competitor,” said Paul Annacone, one of his lifelong coaches, who worked with Federer. “It’s the first thing and the last thing I’m looking for. I just know that it doesn’t matter what is happening in your life, on the court, outside the court, with your body, you will not give all the people who have skills you have, that will create opportunities at the highest level.
