A look at the omega blocking pattern that will lead to flooding concerns

Fox Weather’s meteorologist, Jane Minar, takes a look at what is reserved for the first full week of May.
A quite unusual climate pattern for early May is being installed in the United States, one that meteorologists warn will lead to a stagnant pattern with prolonged heat periods in some areas and constant rain in others.
The pattern, known as the “omega block”, bears the name of the Greek letter omega and interrupts the usual zonal flow of weather systems.
As a result, two different precipitation regions are expected to dominate the work week: one that extends from the southern plains to the Gulf coast, and another that affects the NORT sheet.

“A lot of moisture will be under those minimums. It is a slow motion pattern that children or keep locked in their place with rain,” said Fox Weather’s meteorologist, Jane Minar.
What is an omega block?
Forecast models indicate generalized rain 3 to 6 inches throughout the south, with possible isolated areas receiving even more.
The rain can also be accompanied by strong thunderstorms, some of which could reach severe levels.
Cities like New Orleans, Jackson, Mississippi and Alexandria, Louisiana are in or near the target where the heaviest rain is expected to fall during the week.

Some communities in the region are especially vulnerable, since many have already experienced torrential rains in recent weeks.
The Fox forecast center warns that saturated levels of land and river will increase the risk of floods, especially in low or poorly drained areas.
The highest risk of flood is expected from Tuesday night until early Wednesday, when more than 50 million people in the southern US. UU. They will be under the risks of sudden level 1 at level 3, according to the NOAA meteorarate prediction center.

In contrast, the northeast will benefit from incoming precipitation. Forecast models predict 1 to 3 inches of rain through the I-95 corridor, with locally possible amounts possible.
The rain could provide a relief welcome to the regions that experience moderate to severe drought along the east coast.
It is not known that this type of pattern produces extensive Weather outbreaks, since the dynamics is not in its place, but they are possible episodes located with hail and racing winds.

Something unusual is happening in the tropics with less than one month to the hurricanes season
Meanwhile, regions outside the influence of low pressure systems will experience drier air and temperatures that will vary significantly.
The northern plains are expected to see the maximums ascend to the 70s and 80s, while parts of the southwest, including cities such as Las Vegas and Los Angeles, can fight to reach seasonal standards.
“He will feel more like Christmas in Los Angeles and July 4 in Fargo,” said mine.
Looking towards the future, the forecasts anticipate that the transmission of the Jet will begin to change next weekend, allowing a return to a more typical spring climate pattern in a large section of the country.
