UAE weather: Yellow alert issued for dust; speed limit reduced for safety

The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) issued a yellow warning for dust on Saturday, April 5, with the majority of the country experiencing a fair weather and partly cloudy conditions.

The met cautioned against a decline in horizontal visibility, which may drop to less than 3000m at times over some coastal areas and internal areas, especially westward, from 11am until 6pm today.

In a post on X, Abu Dhabi Police called on motorists to exercise caution due to reduced visibility due to the dusty conditions. Drivers are urged to follow changing speed limits displayed on electronic information boards

Earlier, the met noted that residents across the country can expect dusty conditions during the day.

Light to moderate Southeasterly to Northeasterly winds, which could get freshening at times, will blow across the country. These winds, with a speed of 10-25kmph will cause blowing dust during the day. While winds are expected to be gentle, the gusts could pick up and reach up to 40kmph.

Temperatures will be as high as 41°C in the country. Abu Dhabi will see a high of 41°C, whereas temperatures in Dubai can reach up to 40ºC.

Meanwhile, the mercury may dip to 16°C and 17ºC in the mountains and internal areas, respectively.

Conditions at sea will be slight in the Arabian Gulf and in Oman Sea.
