Baghdad: In a Baghdad sand, a crowd applauds to the battery rhythm, not for a football game but for a burning game of centenarians who enjoy the Ramadan of the Iraqi duration called “Mheibes.” “It is a heritage game, the game of our ancestors, which unites all Iraqi,” said Jassem Al-Aswad, a Mheibes champion of a long time in his seventy and now president of the National Federation of the game. The game involves members of a team that hide a ring: “Mehbis” in Arabic, and the captain of the opposite team who tries to guess who has it in the palm of his hand.
