Macron threatens sanctions on Israelis over Gaza aid crisis | Israel-Palestine conflict News

The French president, Emmanuel Macron, warned that his country could “apply sanctions” against the Israelis unless the Government in Tel Aviv responds to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

Speaking a visit to Singapore on Friday, Macron said the international community could not remain passive, while the Palestinians in Gaza face a hunger crisis. Comments further increase international pressure on Israel, which has blocked the Palestinian enclave for almost three months, with help agencies warning about the famine.

“Humanitarian block is creating an incomonable situation in the field,” Macron said at a joint press conference along with Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong.

“If there is no response in the next few hours and days in line with the humanitarian situation, we have to harden our collective position,” he added, suggesting that France may consider applying sanctions against Israeli settlers.

Israel recently said that he was tilting at the international pressure and would allow “minimum” food and medicine supplies to Gaza, in which he continues to fight an intense military assault.

However, the dripping of the fringe vaccine under the control of a new NGO backed by Israel and the United States has been accompanied by looting and violence.

In his comments, Macron requested the end of the cases that Israel respects human rights.

“But I still hope that the Israel government changes its position and that we finally have a humanitarian response,” he added.

The French leader also emphasized that the recognition of a Palestinian State is “not only a moral duty, but a political need,” although he added that his establishment would need to be in specific conditions.

His comments followed a joint statement earlier of the week with the Indonesian President, Pabowo Subianto, condemning any Israeli plan to confiscate the control of Gaza or expel its population.

Paris hopes to gather the impulse for a conditional recognition of Palestinian status, which would require, among other things, the demilitaries of Hamas.

French officials are weighing the progress ahead of a United Nations conference, which France and Saudi Arabia are organized between June 17 and 20 to establish the parameters of a road map to a Palestinian state, while guaranteeing the security of Israel.

However, some diplomats and experts suggest that such movements would be enraged to Israel and deepen Western divisions.

Imminent hunger

Although some help began to enter Gaza after the Israeli block, the humanitarian crisis remains serious. Experts warn that one in five people faces imminent starvation.

The Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), a private initiative backed by the United States and Israel, expanded its aid operations on Thursday. But group efforts have been widely condemned by the United Nations and other agencies such as insufficient, poorly managed and not adhered to humanitarian principles.

The GHF centers have become chaos, violence and despair sites with scenes of disorder that run during the week, since a large number of hungry people have women’s security forces at distribution points.

A Jazeera correspondent in Gaza reported Friday that several people were injured by the shots of the Israeli army in the center of the enclave while trying to reach a help point established by GHF.

Unrwa, the UN Agency for Palestinian refugees, said Friday that I was prepared to deliver supplies, including food plots, hygiene kits and medical aid, their stores in Amman, only a few hours.

Meanwhile, he talks about a high fire in the Israel War with the Palestinian armed group Hamas continues, and the United States has presented a new proposal.

Hamas has said that the proposal “is still under discussion”, but in its current form it would only result in “the continuation of the murder and the famine” in Gaza.
