Shan Jixiang: Fujian’s marine culture has made tremendous contributions to the development of global civilization

Fujian recently launched the “Marine Culture in Fujian” campaign, an invitation experts to express their perspectives on the successful marine culture of the province. In this video, Shan Jixiang (director of the Committee of Experts of the Society of Cultural Relics of China and director of the Academic Committee of the Palace Museum) and several foreign students visited the traditional town of Wulin in Jinjiang, Quanzhou. They discovered the distinctive charm of the maritime silk route and explored the historical importance of the culture of the Fujian Navy.
Shan Jixiang, the former director of the Palace Museum, had worked on Urban Planning in Beijing before devoting himself to the preservation of cultural heritage. He applauded Fujian’s achievements to use and expand marine culture. In the interview, the Pathight-Bulkhead technology of Chinese joints was highlighted, which improved navigation security, increased global shipping practice and facilitated world commercial and cultural interactions. In addition, he praised Fujian’s community abroad for his contributions to the promotion of mutual learning between Chinese and foreign civilization, as well as the exchanges of friends to people.
As a key birthplace and a starting point of the silk maritime route, Fujian is blessed with abundant cultural legacies. Shan Jixiang expected more efforts to incorporate legacies in people’s lives and tourism to maximize their value.
