The army says that an air base, a cargo warehouse and some civil facilities were attacked in Port Sudan in the first RSF attack in the eastern city.
The Sudan Army says that the paramilitary rapid support forces (RSF) attacked a military air base and other facilities near Port Sudan airport.
The army said Sunday that the air base was attacked with a drone, as well as a cargo warehouse and some civil facilities, in the first attack in the eastern city by the RSF.
There are reports of any damage after drones hit a tank of ammunition.
“Both civil and military airports are in the same place. What we know about the residents of the port city is that five were launched by the RSF and aimed at the air base,” Hiba Morgan de Al Jazeera, informing from the capital, Khartum.
“There is a section of the airport that is for civil flights, but there are military flights that the country at the same airport. Therefore, it is not clear if the drones were pointing to military or civil facilities or both,” he said.
“There are still no civil casualties reports, and it is not clear if the RSF was trying to aim the combat plane that was exhibited in a air force show on Saturday afternoon.”
A Sudanese passenger plane was redirected to Jeddah airport after not being able to land Port Sudan airport, according to navigation data from the flight radar.
The data showed that the plane was removed from the Dubai International Airport, but had to change its route and make an emergency landing at the King Abdulaziz International Airport. The plane performed a circular maneuver on the Red Sea before returning to Jeddah.
The Sudan Army and the RSF have dedicated themselves to an intense fight since April 2023, with the warning of the country’s infrastructure and displacing millions.
