Kerry Haigh, director of the PGA of America, is in charge of the configuration this week. “We will have the streets rolling quickly, and that tends to make the ball between rough,” said Harris. “That is the protection of the golf course. People who drive the straight ball will work well.”
The course is configured with five sets of t -shirts, each or which changes the length of the course. The first set, called One Birds, is for professionals, and stretch the course at about 7,600 yards. Sometimes that is too much for some professionals. Simpson said that in the winter, when it is cold and the ball does not fly so far, he plays the two birds, which are approximately 7,000 yards.
“It’s really fun,” Simpson said. “I love to climb the two birds. I play the three birds with a friend who is a disadvantage plus 2. I drive it 30 yards fits it. But it is fun to see how different the course plays.” The three birds have 6,400 yards. Harris said he enjoys the four birds, which are 5,800 yards.
The only tournament in which the course was radically different from what the members played was the Cup of Presidents 2022. The last three holes of Quail Hollow, known as Green Mile, have decided many tournaments. In the face to face, as in a glass of presidents, the parties tend to be before holes 16, 17 and 18. Therefore, the club changed the routing and put the completion holes in 10, 11 and 12.
There are challenges for members. One of them are the different types of grass planted to adapt to the different climate, a process called supervision. For professional tournaments in May, the course is overvalued with rye grass; In the hot summer months, he has returned to the grass of the Bermuda. “The challenges come in the transitions,” said Tom Delozier, general manager of the club.
