
Special Olympics UAE Announces New Board of Trustees

Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates – June 17, 2025—His highness Sheikha Mariam Bint Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, founder and honorary president of Eau de Olimpiadas Special, has approved the new structure of the organization’s trustee. The new Board reflects a renewed commitment to inclusive leadership and deeper commitment to families and athletes, placing them in the heart of institutional development.
The engineer Sharif Afif al Shami, the father of an Athlete from the EAU of special Olympics, will preside over the new Board. Its appointment highlights the dedication of the organization to strengthen effective associations with families and guarantee their integral role in the configuration of programs and initiatives that serve people of determination.
The new EUA of the EAU of Special Olympics includes people with extensive experience in the health, education, media and social development sectors.
It also presents members who are athletes or parents of athletes, who reinforce the central values of participation, representation and inclination.
The freshly appointed members of the Trustee Board are:

- Mrs. Alia Abdallah Bin AlShaikh, Interim Executive Director of the Strategic Communication and Development Sector – National Media Office

This development is aligned with the vision of the EAU for the inclusion and empowerment of people of determination and supports greater community participation in the configuration of inclusive programs, policies and practices.

On Eau Special Olympics:
In October 2017, his highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid al Maktoum, vice president and prime minister of the EAU and ruler of Dubai, announced the EAU of special Olympics as an independent organization of dedicated disabilities. His highness Sheikha Mariam Bint Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan was appointed honorary president.
The organization aims to empower people with intellectual disabilities and development through sports while giving them leadership opportunities to help them show their talents and integrate them with conventional society.
Eau Special Olympics has launched a variety of community programs, including those centered on young families and athletes. It has also introduced a series of initiatives to empower people with intellectual disabilities and development to create a more inclusive society.
The EAU Special Olympic Games received the international recognition of the International Special Olympics Foundation-USA in December 2017.
