At one point, he said, a way used to leave the legal permanent residence was presented, and they told him that he should give up his green card and, on the other hand, request a work permit to enter the United States. He refused, was admitted in the country and is now back in New York. He described the experience as discouraging, saying that he felt he was already good.
The National Security Department did not answer questions about the incident.
Another head of the Green Card, Cliona Ward, 54, who has lived in Santa Cruz, California, since he was 12 years old, was arrested at the San Francisco International Airport on April 21 when he returned from a seven -day trip to Dublin. Mrs. Ward had two sentences for serious crimes in 2007 and 2008 related to drug possession of a period of letter addiction she experienced, according to her sister, Orla Holladay.
According to Mrs. Holladay, those convictions were eliminated, which means that the conviction would be essentially eliminated from the criminal record, after Mrs. Ward completed a rehabilitation program, and has accumulated her sobriety for almost 20 years. Her sister described her as a taxpayer who is legal in the country and is part of the community.
Erin Hall, lawyer of Mrs. Ward, said the United States immigration and customs application, which handles such cases, has not provided any criminal record. The agency declined to comment.
Mrs. Ward has a leg in detention for a week and does not have a date for an audience about her case.
